Overview

Clematis Alpina, also known as the Austrian Clematis, is a stunning deciduous climbing plant that puts on a beautiful display each spring - in April to May, its pale purple bell-shaped flowers will appear, on a backdrop of slender, delicately serrated leaves. The blooms will be followed by fluffy looking seed-heads, distinct to the Clematis plant. As a strong, vigorous climber revered for its resilience, the ‘Alpina’ is a fantastic choice for covering up any unsightly surfaces, attractively scrambling down a tree’s branches or going up an arch or trellis for a touch of whimsy with its lavender tinted blooms. Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth. Characteristics: Medium-sized hardy climber, deciduous foliage, light purple flowers in spring and summer, fluffy seed heads, great for wall cover, trellis or garden arch Growth & spread: Maximum height of 2.5m and maximum spread of 1.5m Care and Maintenance: Your Clematis will thrive in a position benefitting from access to full sun or partial shade. Plant in moist but well-drained soil composed of Chalk, Clay, Loam or Sand. No routine pruning necessary - however, if needed to maintain its size and shape, it’s best done immediately after flowering. Period of interest: Flowers in spring from April to May
